Charles Bukowski’s writing has been noted by critics and fans alike for its raw honesty and dark humor. It shows up again and again in his writing, in both his prose and poetry. So it is no wonder he is a favorite of comedians like Doug Stanhope, as previously reported here.

Bukowski has another hardcore comic fan in brilliant one-liner stand up comedian Steven Wright, who was asked about the writer in an interview with Tuscon Weekly, ahead of a show at the Rialto Theatre on December 1.
Interviewer Linda Ray begins the interview asking Wright if he’s a Bukowski fan, to which he provides a resounding yes:
“Charles Bukowski!” The floodgates open. “He’s one of my top three authors in my life, him and Kurt Vonnegut. I’ve read all of Bukowski’s books and I’ve read several of them many times. Every few years, even if I don’t read the whole book again, I have to go back and read bits of him. He’s unbelievable.”
Later in the article, Wright says he was influenced by George Carlin and Woody Allen.
